Still Life

When I was a little girl I drew and drew and drew. Both my parents went to art college and my Dad set up and ran the sculpture course at Norwich School of Art so I suppose you could say it was in my blood.  My favourite thing to draw were still lives and even when I went to art college I was mad about painting pots and bowls.  This evening I popped some fruit down on the table for Ottilie to draw, who is 6, and this was her finished piece.  I love it so much I wish I had drawn it myself.  I think drawing is good for the soul and particularly when you're little and learning to make sense of the world.

1950's butterfly whistle

These are butterfly tin whistles from the 50's.  I found them in a funny antique lighting shop tucked away in the corner and couldn't resist them.   Dining table to post to follow.

Dice and superheroes

Agatha found a beautiful big red dice in her stocking and LOVES it.  I then discovered lots of others and thought how appealing they are! so todays pic is to celebrate the lovely dice.
I also want to do a series of posts about our dining table.  When my husband and I bought our huge old pine table we made a pact that we wouldn't be too precious about keeping it clean.  We knew that as the children grew up they would probably paint, draw and generally deface the surface in as many ways as possible.  And to be honest it's pretty gluey, glittery and painty.  But we like it that way.  My plan is to take pictures of what we do on our kitchen table every day.  Today it's Marvel mania puzzles.  Completed last night and shuffled around this morning to avoid the Shreddies and orange juice.

Bar Mitzvah and washing

Morning all.  Thank you for following my blog.  Went to a Bar Mitzvah at the weekend, which was the most amazing lavish warm hearted celebration.  And what a wonderful thing to do for your 13 year old son.  I wish my parents had stood up in front of 150 people when I was that age and told me how incredibly proud of me they were.  Very moving.
No pics yet today.  Am too busy washing PE kit.  Oh hang on.......................................see what I mean.

Twine and book

My lovely glass string cover and butchers twine.
End of the Christmas holidays tomorrow which leaves me feeling both a little sad and hugely relieved.   Book writing is on the agenda at the moment which is very exciting and at least I can get some uninterupted work done during the week.  More to follow about upcoming book later, but needless to say an exciting project about vintage weddings with my lovely friend Jo Millington www.joannamillingtonweddings.blogspot.com.
